'Avengers 4': Frank Grillo backtracks on Crossbones' return
After confirming that his character will be back in a flashback sequence in “Avengers 4,” Frank Grillo (Crossbones) is now back tracking on it. In a post on social media the actor said that reports about his return are “fake news,” and that people should move on.
Grillo’s post on Instagram [see below] shows what appears to be a typical headline that covered news about the return of Crossbones in the upcoming film. As reportedly earlier, the actor had said during the UFC Unfiltered podcast that his character will be back for a short flashback sequence. He went on to add at that time that he can say anything now, since he is not planning to be in any more Marvel movies.
In the Instagram post however, the actor explained that in the course of a day he gets asked a thousand questions about a character he “played for 8 minutes.” The statement appears to suggest that he didn’t really mean the things he said previously.
“I’ve confirmed nothing. But sometimes i have fun [with] people who ask,” Grillo wrote in the post, along with the hashtag that asked people to move on.
Did Grillo get a call from executives from Marvel, forcing him to make this new statement? The cast members aren’t allowed to share details about the ultra secret “Avengers 4” film. Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner) got publicly “fired” by the directors for revealing the title of the film in a recent interview.
Will Crossbones be back in the upcoming film? Or was Grillo being honest when he said he was just having fun with people? Crossbones died in a previous Marvel movie, but he may return if there is an important scene in a flashback that is relevant to the upcoming film.
“Avengers 4” has been directed by the Russo brothers. The film is set to be released on May 3, 2019 in the US.
