Walt Disney's film, "The Avengers," is designed to become a blockbuster and box office hit. It dominated Australian charts with $13.28 million this weekend upon following its release.

The superhero film starred by Aussie star Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr. and Scarlet Johannson was ahead of the race. Australians showed their support to the film on its first day, giving the film a record-breaking $6 million. The film came in second to "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2," which garnered $7 million in July 2011.

"The Avengers" accumulated $170 million internationally even before it opens in the US on Friday. The movie brings together popular Marvel comic-book characters including Thor, Iron Man, Captain America and The Hulk. It also include other characters who were cameos, including Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow, Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury and Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye.

Zac Efron's romantic-drama movie "The Lucky One" was pushed to second place. Mature rom-com "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel" jumped back from sixth place to the third spot. While, young adult dystopian drama "The Hunger Games" settled to number four. The hilarious fourth sequel of "American Pie" got the fifth place.
