Baby Born Amidst Philippine Typhoon Aftermath
Despite the extreme destruction that the super typhoon Haiyan caused the Philippines, a moment of miracle came when a baby girl was born in Tacloban City, Leyte.
Yahoo GMA reports that the people who surrounded the 21-year-old woman who gave birth cheered together after she delivered a bouncing a baby named as Bea Joy Sagales. Her delivery happened in the airport with the assistance of several residents and other medics from the military.
The Mother's Story
Emily Ortega, the woman who gave birth, shared with the AP that she went through some real ordeal as well just to survive. She said that she clung to a post before she found safety in an evacuation centre at the airport and gave birth in its control tower. She added that her husband is in Manila, unaware of what happened to her.
According to ABC News, the baby's name was the same as the mum of Ortega who is missing since Friday. She recalled how her own mother was swept by huge waves when the storm surge went near their home in Tacloban City.
A Sign of Hope
The birth of baby Bea served as a new ray of hope to the local people who much needed a positive lift as everyone looks forward to fast and complete recovery. Most of the building constructions were demolished and there are still no supply of electricity, food and water for the survivors of the strongest typhoon in history, New York Daily News stated.
Many officials say that there could be a possibility for the number of deaths to reach up to around 10,000 with thousands still remains missing. Various aid pledges started coming in Monday with various disaster assessment teams from the UN and the U.S. came on the scene.
There are many organisations who accept donations and will be the ones to reach out to the victims and make sure that they get the supplies and all the help that they need.
