A one-week old baby dolphin will be shown at Sea World on Tuesday, coinciding with the World Oceans Day.

The Inshore Pacific Bottlenose dolphin was born at 9am (AEST) on May 31. It was about 90cm long at birth.

Its mum, 47-year-old dolphin Suzy, has adjusted well to her new role.

The sex of the newborn has not yet been confirmed though by the staff of the Gold Coast theme park.

Sea World spokesman Trevor Long said the calf was doing well, swimming strongly and suckling milk from its mother.

According to him, the calf had arrived in time for the World Ocean Day celebration on Tuesday.

"Dolphins are one of the world's most endearing marine mammals," Mr Long said.

"This new calf is the perfect candidate to kick-start some proactive conservation."

Park visitors may help in giving the baby dolphin a name by putting their suggestions outside the dolphin nursery pools.
