Babysitter Jenkins Charged with Murder After Chloe Died
Ketapat Jenkins, Chloe's babysitter, was accused of murder after a series of investigations.
A 10-month-old child named Chloe Murphy died after parents left her at Jenkin's Kensignton home in Melbourne.
Justin Tippett, Homicide Squad Detective Senior Const, said the autopsy showed that she got a head injury. Her left arm had three fractures including her skull with hemorrhages discovered on her brain and eye.
Tippett suggested that an assault has been done as the impact was severe causing multiple injuries. The pattern of the fractures indicated a physical attack.
Evidence collected from the investigations revealed that the child died while being cared for by Ketapat Jenkins.
Jenkins was interviewed by police two times and had denied any maltreatment or mishandling of the baby. She's the only one who had access to Chloe at home. She also wondered how the baby got the injuries. She also told police that she called Chloe's parents to say that the baby seem to be breathing like having an asthma.
Further investigations revealed that Jenkins also took care of Chloe sometime in October. When parents arrived and checked on their baby, Chloe had a band-aid around her thumb. Jenkins apologized for accidentally cutting Chloe's finger while clipping her nails.
Anthony and Phurithee Murphy rushed Chloe to the Royal Children's Hospital three and a half hours later after fetching her from the babysitter as she was struggling to breathe. Chloe had a brain surgery and was aided with life support before she died two days later.
Ketapat Jenkins was charged with manslaughter, but was granted bail on the condition that she must surrender her passport, report to police on a regular schedule, and post a surety worth $20,000.
