Bagged Salad Recall Related to Possible Listeria Contamination
River Ranch Fresh Food, LLC of Salinas, California voluntarily recalled bagged salad because of possible listeria contamination, MSN reports.
Recall of the bagged salad followed after the routine random test by the Ohio Department of Agriculture of Giant Eagle Farmer's eight ounce package of Shredded iceberg lettuce with a use by date of October 14, 2011, yielded presence of listeria monocytogenes. To date, there are no reported cases of customer illness due to consumption of the item, as reported by US FDA.
On September 14, 2011, Jensen Farms of Colorado announced a cantaloupe recall brought about by concern of listeria contamination.
Center for Disease Control update early this month has confirmed 18 deaths and 100 confirmed listeriosis cases have been linked to the contaminated cantaloupe. Twenty states have reported confirmed outbreak cases.
