Thanks to actor George Clooney's joke, a beauty and wellness procedure exclusive to men has boosted the popularity and male clientele of a Sta Monica clinic where the treatment began.

Clooney was quoted by the Italian magazine Max, in its January 2013 issue, that "I never fixed my eyes, but I spent more money to stretch the skin of my testicles."

Nurse Jamie, a cosmetic expert and developer of the Male Laser Treatment, more popularly known as ball ironing, said that as a result of Clooney's interview wherein he mentioned the procedure, her Beauty Park Spa's male clients increased to 40 per cent from 15 per cent.

The $575 non-surgical treatment uses laser to remove hair, erase wrinkles and correct the discoloration on the scrotum.

Jamie disclosed that among the increasing number of men who go for the procedure are celebrities such as actors who are preparing to look their best especially during movie awards nights. But she declined to name her famous clients.

Besides celebrities, her other clients include handymen, bankers and executives who want to look better down there.

The nurse recalled that she decided to look further into tackle tightening in response to inquiries from men about such a procedure as males become more comfortable with their private grooming habits.

Ms Jamie added that she even had difficulty naming the procedure and considered the names Go Nuts and Laser Polish the Crown Jewels. The hair removal part runs for 45 minutes and the skin tightening and improvement of testicle skin colour is for another 25 minutes.

While the result is good for four weeks, she recommends that men have six sessions.

The spa has a similar procedure for females called ELVR or external laser vaginal rejuvenation.
