Bangkok Officials: Floods Gone in 11 Days
Thai irrigation officials said floodwaters in Bangkok will be gone in 11 days as it continues to drain into the sea at a rate of 400 million cubic metres per day.
The country's Irrigation Department estimated that 14 billion cubic metres of floodwater was caused when heavy monsoon rains since July overflowed several dams and rivers in northern Thailand. About 5.5 billion cubic metres flowed into the sea but the remaining 8.5 billion cubic metres flowed into the central plains and northern part of the capital, Irrigation Department spokesman Boonsanong Suchatpong said, according to Xinhua.
Flood level went down one to four centimetres in several eastern and western districts of Bangkok, Bangkok Posted quoted Metropolitan Administration spokesman Wasant Meewong as saying on Wednesday. The districts where flood is receding are Bang Phlat, Sai Mai, Bang Sue, Nong Chok, Lat Krabang, Khannayao, Lat Phrao, and Thawi Watthana.
Still flooded are Min Buri and Khlong Sam Wa districts east of Bangkok, the Phahon Yothin and Vibhavadi Rangsit roads, Khlong Lat Phrao, Khlong Bang Bua and Khlong Prem Prachakorn.
Water pumps are being used to remove the floodwater.
The country's worst flood in 60 years killed more than 500 people and displaced 10 million people. The flood destroyed farmlands and disrupted operations in industrial estates.
