Barack and Michelle Obama are the most powerful couple in the world. The American president and his first lady join former U.S. president Bill Clinton and former secretary of state Hillary Clinton, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, as well as Brangelina in the new compilation.

As an individual, each of the names on the list is powerful on their own, but as a couple, they are invincible.

Just like in the case of the Obamas. According to Forbes, the POTUS and the FLOTUS have beaten other impressive names in the list that includes other influential figures.

Michelle is more popular than her husband, with 67% of Americans think of her in a favourable light, but together with her husband, they are even more powerful than their peers.

Next on the list are Bill and Melinda Gates. The richest man in the U.S. and his other half are also the most generous. Their Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation donated $3.4b last year.

Superstars Jay-Z and Beyonce not only cover both the hip-hop and pop markets in music, but apparently the whole world as well. Forbes has named them in the power list, calling them "the first couple of music."

It is almost a given that perennial A-listers Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are included in anything that has a "power" word in it so it's unsurprising that they made it in the list even though they aren't married (yet). With their unfailing careers, strong dedication to doing charity works, and seemingly bottomless energy reserved for their six children, Brangelina are truly a power couple.

Also included are talk show host Ellen DeGeneres and actress wife Portia De Rossi, who are the only homosexual couple on the list. The likely pair are staunch supporters of gay rights, and have become sort of a success story in gay marriage.

In the fashion front we have two pairs. First are Miuccia Prada and husband Patrizio Bertelli, who design (Prada) and manage (Bertelli) their luxury fashion empire, and have a combined worth of $19b. The other couple is the marital team of fashion legend Diane von Furstenburg and media mogul Barry Diller.

Their successors are already lined up, but Queen Elizabeth II and husband Prince Philip, who celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in November, are still strong and powerful enough to rule.

Also included in the list are Chinese President Xi Jinping and former folk singer wife Peng Liyuan, Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer and former lawyer Zachary Bogue, Bill and Hillary Clinton, pop star Shakira and football player Gerard Pique, HTC mobile company honchos Cher Wang and Wenchi Chen, veteran broadcaster Diane Sawyer and Oscar-winning director husband Mike Nichols, and New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady and supermodel wife Gisele Bundchen.
