Barack Obama’s Golf Game Forces Couple To Relocate Wedding Venue
The 16th hole at the Kaneohe Golf Course in the Marine Corps Base in Hawaii was supposed to be the wedding venue for marine captains Natalie Heimel and her fiancé, Edward Mallue Jr. The couple had to alter their plans on the big day after they were told that the green could not be used as President Barack Obama was playing there. The couple even invited the President to their solemn ceremony and were gracefully notified that he could not come. However, they got the shock of their lives when they were told they could not use the venue they were eyeing for several months prior to the event.
"It was kind of ironic they got the letter from them and then, within hours, they were told they had to be moved due to him," Jamie McCarthy, sister of the bride, told Bloomberg Politics. "It was emotional, especially for her - she's the bride and in less than 24 hours they had to change everything they had planned."
Nevertheless, the President of the United States made everything right by placing a personal call to the couple to apologize for the unfortunate incident. The bride was apparently appeased and called the brief encounter with the commander-in-chief a "wonderful talk." She also added that Obama was very cordial and funny during the phone call which was met with praises by the whole family after they put the President on speaker phone.
Obama just personally called my sister & her new husband to apologize for foiling their wedding venue golfing. Amazing! #malluewedding

The said golf course has been one of the favourite spots for Obama whenever he is in Hawaii. It was understandably a perfect spot for a tying the knot as the golf course is set against the backdrop of the Pacific coastline which is spread over the back nine. The newlyweds were forced to relocate to a lawn near the home of Colonel Eric Schaefer which still was at arm's length of the original venue. Despite the modifications, the wedding was still a success aided by the phone call from the President.
This is the second time that the President's golfing affinity have made headlines as just a few months ago Obama did not alter his schedule of a round of golf despite being the delivered the news of James Foley's beheading. Still, the latest news is far less threatening than the previous one which somewhat delivered the message that the President's schedule cannot be shaken by a terrorist threat and divided critics on what to make of the said action.
