Barbara Streisand's New Album 'Partners' Sets A New Record, Debuts At Number One Spot At Billboard [SEE VIDEO]
Legendary singer Barbara Streisand's new album "Partners" has set a record. The album, which opened at number one spot in the Billboard 200 charts, has catapulted Streisand as an artist who has achieved number one albums in each of the last six decades. The album has sold 196,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
The remarkable sale of her album "Partners" has also made Streisand as an artist with the largest sales week for a female artist so far in 2014. It is also her biggest sales frame since Christmas week of 1997 when "Higher Ground" shifted 402,000 in the frame ending Dec. 28, 1997, reveals Billboard.
Barbara's first number one album "People" arrived more than five decades ago in October 1964 and "Partners," which was released on September 16, is Streisand's 10th number one album.
In her latest album, Streisand has collaborated on classic duets with some of the most remarkable male artists. The 72-year-old multiple Grammy Award winning artist sang "New York State of Mind" with Billy Joel and "The Way We Were" with Lionel Richie. A virtual duet with Elvis Presley "Love Me Tender" is also worth a mention.
Barbara also promoted her album on Jimmy Fallon's talk show last week where Fallon sung a duet with her. "She's got duets with legends like Elvis Presley, she does a duet with Blake Shelton, Michael Buble. So, of course, Elvis is no longer with us -- spoiler alert -- Blake's over at 'The Voice,' Buble's on tour, so instead, standing in for Elvis, Blake and Buble will be ... me," revealed Fallon during the show.
Fallon impersonated Shelton with his cowboy hat and suit and the two sung "I'd Want It to Be You," the song Streisand and Shelton recorded. Check out the video below.
Meanwhile, Chris Brown's sixth album "X" grabbed the number two spot with 146,000 copies sold while the third position was claimed by Tim McGraw whose new album "Sundown Heaven Town" sold 71,000 copies during the week, reveals Billboard. The number four spot in the Billboard charts went to George Strait whose live album "The Cowboy Rides Away: Live From AT&T Stadium" sold 51,000 copies.
