Batman Son Of Suparman Goes To The Dark Side, Man With Superhero Names Jailed
A Singaporean man with a doubly epic name has been jailed for unheroic acts on Monday. 23-year-old Batman bin Suparman (his real name) was sentenced to two years and nine months in prison for housebreaking, theft, and drug offences.
Mr Suparman, whose name translates to “Batman son of Suparman,” first gained Internet stardom in 2012 when his identity card was circulated online. He even has a fan club on Facebook, with the over 10,000 members praising him for no other reason than having two superhero names.

But as it turned out, being blessed (cursed?) with a combined name of DC Comics’ most famous superheroes does not automatically make a person want to fight crime. In the case of Mr Suparman, he was the one who did crimes.
In July, he stole his older brother Nurazman Suparman’s ATM card and made SGD650 withdrawals. His 28-year-old brother reported the crime to the police. Mr Suparman also broke into the office of GF Billiards & Marketing twice in August to steal a total of SGD500.
He was identified through the security video footage of the store, and was arrested on August 19.
A urine test also revealed that the unemployed young man had been abusing heroin.
He admitted to six counts of theft, two counts relating to house trespassing, one count for housebreaking, and one for drug consumption between June and August 2013. The prosecution proceeded with three charges out of ten.
On Monday, District Judge Wong Choon Ning sentenced him to 33 months in jail.
Mr Suparman isn’t the only media sensation who has gone to the dark side.
Jennifer Mee, or more famously known as Hiccup Girl, was sentenced to life in prison for first-degree murder in September. Ms Mee, 22, was given the curious moniker in 2007 after appearing on the U.S. morning show “Today” for her uncontrollable hiccupping, which lasted for five straight weeks.
