When Ben Affleck was announced as the new Batman in Zack Snyder's "Man of Steel" sequel, some fans were reportedly not pleased. The actor was welcomed with criticisms. However, Charles Roven, one of the producers of "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice," clearly laid out the reasons why the team and even Snyder himself voted for the actor as Batman material.

In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, (video below) Charles Roven revealed why producers and even movie director Zack Snyder chose Ben Affleck. Roven claimed Affleck was the first person whom they wanted for the role and thus approached him to be part of the "Man of Steel" sequel. The "Daredevil" star reportedly fits the character description for the new Bruce Wayne and his superhero alter-ego.

Inquisitr claims the actor who will portray Batman was initially expected to be around Superman's (Henry Cavill) age. However, Roven revealed producers wanted a matured version of the cape crusader instead in "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice."

"We knew that we wanted a very mature Batman, because we wanted to juxtapose him with this very young Superman," Charles Roven told Hollywood Reporter's Stephen Galloway.

"So we wanted a guy who was tougher, rugged, who had signs of life, who had lived a hard life, and we wanted the guy to have chops, for sure," he added.

Ben Affleck is 11 years senior to Henry Cavill's 31 years of age. This definitely proves the "mature" part of the character description for Batman. Additionally, Roven claimed the new Bruce Wayne and his alter-ego in "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" should "tower over Superman." Fortunately, Affleck stands 6'4" as opposed to Henry Cavill's 6'1". The "Man of Steel" sequel reportedly needs to have that dynamic where Superman looks up to Batman. Roven confirmed in the interview that Ben Affleck could easily incorporate that in the movie.

Lastly, it would seem that Ben Affleck was the only actor fit to play the role of Bruce Wayne and his cape crusader alter-ego in "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice." The producer revealed that while they had a number of actors listed for the role, no one else matched the specified character description except for Ben Affleck. As Bruce Wayne, the actor will be a "social animal" according to Roven. But as Batman, he will reportedly be a very rough version of Gotham City's night crusader.
