‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ spoilers: The real reason for Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent’s feud [VIDEO]
The titular superheroes of “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” are, as the title suggests, feuding, and there’s a good reason for that. However, contrary to what has been claimed in the film’s marketing campaign, Batman (Ben Affleck) and Superman (Henry Cavill) are not having a row because Bruce Wayne is trying to stop Superman from running amok.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the DC Comics’ most popular superheroes are battling their own demons, with Superman/Clark Kent trying to figure out how to help without hurting anyone, and Batman/Bruce wondering if he ever really saved anyone or just actually made things worse.
“He’s projecting his own sense of failure, his own sense of disillusionment, his own cynicism into Superman,” Affleck told EW.
Metropolis’ resident alien, on the other hand, is feeling vulnerable. “He doesn’t want to scare anyone, and in that you can take advantage of him. This is someone who is a complete amateur, and he’s facing up against someone who is very well versed in the arts of war,” Cavill explained.
And this is where Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) comes in. He knows how to manipulate the two, and so he does.
“Luthor not only [slightly spoiler alert] orchestrates a mass murder aimed at turning the two heavy hitters against each other but also uses some Kyrptonian relics behind from the ‘Man of Steel’ aftermath to cook up a cosmic mutant Frankenstein – Doomsday, partially built from the remains of Michael Shannon’s General Zod,” the website reveals.
The few trailers that have been released so far do not reveal much about Luthor’s role in the film, only hinting that Bruce is indeed suspecting Superman of abusing his powers. So EW’s synopsis makes Luthor’s role and actions clearer.
Superman and Batman aren’t the only superheroes in the film. Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) will have a major supporting role. Her secret identity, Diana Prince, will catch the attention of Bruce as they engage in rival missions to steal some of Luthor’s secrets. As EW described her, “Wonder Woman’s secret identity is pretty badass.”
Amy Adams will reprise her role as Lois Lane, as will Diane Lane (Martha Kent) and Laurence Fishburne (Perry White). Also starring in the film are Jeremy Irons (Alfred Pennyworth) and Holly Hunter. Zack Snyder directed the film.
“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” will be released on March 24 in Australia and New Zealand, and on March 25 in the US.
