BBC America gifts ‘Doctor Who’ 2016 companion series, Season 9 reruns to feature fan comments [Video]
BBC America in 2016 has gifts galore for “Doctor Who,” well after the latest season of the time-travelling doctor is all wrapped up. BBC America at the Television Critics Association winter press tour has announced an eight-part series “Class.” The companion series has been written by American young-adult writer Patrick Ness, best known for his book “A Monster Calls.” Set in contemporary London, the series will feature the “Doctor Who” team of Steven Moffat and Brian Minchin as executive producers.
Ness said in a statement that he’s extremely thrilled to be entering the universe of “Doctor Who,” which is as vast as space and time itself, writes USA Today.
“I can’t wait for people to meet the heroes of ‘Class,’ to meet the all-new villains and aliens, to remember that the horrors of the darkest corners of existence are just about on par with having to pass your exams,” Ness joked.
“Doctor Who” fans can now relax and cheer as they won’t feel bored waiting for the next season to air. Moreover, BBC America has yet another surprise. It will soon be rebroadcasting Season 9 as “Doctor’s Notes” with fan-made commentary layered on top. According to Engadget, the popular television network will rebroadcast the episodes with wordy Tumblr posts, quirky fan tweets, Facebook jabber and amazing Instagram fan art.
Starting Jan. 30, 2016, the reworked episodes will air every Saturday at 6pm PT/9pm ET. This will be fun to watch for those who are already updated with all the episodes. The ones who haven’t or are still catching up may choose to first watch them unaltered. The inclusion of social media will allow “Doctor Who” bingers connect with fellow fans. Of course, the fan-comments used in the episodes will be BBC approved so that one can watch it with his/her entire family.
