BBC iPlayer Upgrade Coming Soon! Tony Hall Expected to Make the Announcement
The popular iPlayer from BBC is reportedly getting an upgrade. The company's director general is expected to make the much anticipated announcement. The upgrade will reportedly feature a more personalised experience.
According to a report by BBC, the digital strategy of the company along with the new iPlayer will be unveiled by Tony Hall, BBC's director general, in his speech on Tuesday. The speech will be his first since the joining speech he gave in April.
The speech titled - Where Next? Is expected to cover Lord Hall's vision for the company till 2022.Users who pay a license fee for the iPlayer on demand service by BBC are expected to benefit from the new personalised experience the company will reportedly offer.
BBC Radio 1 could also get its own channel on the iPlayer, users will be able to listen to exclusive content like interviews with celebrities from across the globe. It will also include music from the Live lounge and the annual Big Weekend festival.
The personalised user experience and on demand services offered by the iPlayer are expected to be crucial for the future of BBC. Many of the radio and internet television services and software applications are now focussing on personalisation.

The new iPlayer is expected to be launched by 2014 in the U.K and in the international markets. It is currently available in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland.
The launch is seeing high expectations as the company gets its strategy in order before 2016, when the current Royal charter and license agreements with the government come to an end. Will the new personalised iPlayer service propel the company to new heights in the digital era?
