As reported in IBT on Monday, the Miami Heat had the inside track in the acquisition of Michael Beasley. On late Thursday, the signing became official after he inked a non-guaranteed $1,027,424 deal with the Heat.

On Wednesday last week, Michael Beasley was released by the Phoenix Suns mainly because of his controversial acts with the franchise, including the August 2013 incident when he was arrested in Arizona for charges of felony marijuana possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.

With the formal acquisition, it looks like general manager Pat Riley and head coach Erik Spoelstra believes that taking the risk with Beasley is worth it and that presence of the veterans LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh and the winning tradition of the franchise will help the volatile and controversial forward.

Beasley was signed by Phoenix as a free agent in 2012 and gave him a three-year contract worth roughly $18M. Beasley suited up for three different teams, the Miami Heat, Minnesota Timberwolves and Suns in his five-year NBA career. The Heat drafted him in 2008 as the overall #2 pick.

Beasley’s best year was in Minnesota when he averaged 19.2 points and 5.6 rebounds in 73 games in the 2010-2011 season.

As usual, the Heat fans and critics alike took to Twitter their thoughts about Beasley’s return to Florida:

If Beasley and Oden workout for the heat and can contribute they could be even better than last year ..

Birdman in January, Oden in August, Beasley in Sept. Give Riley credit for buying low, knowing how to play market, all three at minimum. — Ira Winderman (@IraHeatBeat) September 11, 2013
