The Beatles soars in iTunes, sells 2 million songs
The Beatles has sold 2 million individual songs and almost half-million albums in just a week after best-selling group made their debut on iTunes.
Bilboard reports that the Beatles sold more than 450, 000 albums and 2 million individual songs worldwide, according to figures from a source inside Apple. This has been confirmed by a representative from Apple.
In the United States, "Abbey Road" tops the best-selling Beatles album, while the band's "Here Comes the Sun" tops the best-selling Beatless song.
The Beatles had soared up the iTunes record charts since its debut last Tuesday, with five of their classic albums entering the Top 20 less than 24 hours after the band's catalog was released in the digital retailer. After a week, "Abbey Road" ranked sixth in the United States. However, "Here Comes The Sun" did not break into the top ten charts in iTunes.
Upon the release of their music on iTunes, Sir Paul McCartney said it was "fantastic to see the songs we originally released on vinyl receive as much love in the digital world as they did the first time around."
Thirteen of the Beatles's albums made famous more than four decades ago were released on iTunes which ended years of negotiations between Apple founder Steve Jobs, the Beatles management company Apple Corps, and record label EMI. Apple Inc., and Apple Corps are involved in an on-going dispute on trademark rights.
