Rural communities in several states are inspired to follow the success of a recent local food event held on the south coast of New South Wales, with people travelling thousands of kilometres just to be able to participate in it.

The Bemboka Banquet raised more than $10,000 for the local show society, but more importantly, it produced unity in the community and goodwill.

According to chef and event organiser Patrick Reubinson, the book written by one of the diners exhibited a community's inspiring transformation.

"It stirred them up," he said.

"I was cooking for the garden club as a thank you for what they did for the banquet, and they were singing the praises of the banquet, the way it's changed their approach, the way they look at Bemboka.

"Suddenly it's not stuck at the back of the valley and people are talking about it."

People may have access to the book through the Bemboka Banquet website. It will not be commercially available because it would cost $35 per book to print.
