Ben Affleck is turning back to where he started from - his first love acting. After winning the Best Picture award for his period thriller "Argo," Affleck is stepping in front of the camera to play Batman in Warner Bros'untitled sequel to "Man Of Steel."

The 41-year-old will step into the shoes of reclusive billionaire Bruce Wayne, Batman's alter-ego, in the upcoming film. It will be the first time that two superheroes Batman and Superman will be seen together in a movie.

Other actors in this league to play the iconic character are Michael Keaton, George Clooney and Christian Bale in "Dark Knight" trilogy.

"It's beyond mythological to have Superman and our new Batman facing off, since they are the greatest super heroes in the world," Greg Silverman, president of creative development at Warner Bros Pictures told Reuters.

Silverman further asserted that he was happy he chose Affleck for this role as they needed some "extraordinary actor" to play the role.

"We knew we needed an extraordinary actor to take on one of DC Comics' most enduringly popular super heroes, and Ben Affleck certainly fits that bill, and then some. His outstanding career is a testament to his talent and we know he and Zack will bring new dimension to the duality of this character," Greg Silverman, president of creative development at Warner Bros Pictures said.

Director Zack Snyder has taken a fresh approach for the plot of the "Man of Steel" sequel where the Batman and Superman would be paired together but he was quick to say that there will be no inspiration from the Dark Knight series.

Snyder is confident that he has made the right choice by casting Allfeck in the sequel as the actor has "acting chops to create a layered portrayal of a man who is older and wiser than Clark Kent and bears the scars of a seasoned crime fighter but retain the charm that the world sees in billionaire Bruce Wayne."

Affleck will star opposite Henry Cavill, who will be seen playing the role of Superman/Clark Kent along with "Man of Steel" stars Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane.

Snyder "Man of Steel" made $650 million at the global box office. The yet-to-be titled sequel, slated for release on July 17, 2015.
