Fans of Benedict Cumberbatch are familiar with his creative bent when it comes to acting, courtesy of the BBC show "Sherlock" where he plays the lead role of Sherlock Holmes.

Not only through his acting skills make him a distinguished Hollywood actor but also in his ways when auditioning. The actor has recently bagged a role in the film "Star Trek: Into Darkness" for which the auditions were being conducted miles away. He was able to get the roles with the help of a selfie video that he recorded on his iPhone.

Britannia award-winning actor has adopted this new way of giving auditions in situations when he is far away from the place of audition. He used this method of auditioning for bagging not only "Star Trek" role but also a role alongside Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts and Ewan McGregor in John Wells' film "August: Osage County."

According to the UK Express, the auditions for the big roles were being conducted thousands of miles away thus Cumberbatch decided to audition in his unique way and recorded a selfie video and sent it across to the director.

John Wells, director of the upcoming film "August: Osage County," spoke about Cumberbatch's clever way of auditioning at a Screen Actors Guild event in Los Angeles.

"This one looked like he was holding the phone himself while acting," Wells said.

It seemed the director was very impressed by his ingenuity and acting skills that he described his audition to be "very good."

"He was very good in the iPhone audition but I wasn't familiar with his work," Wells noted.

Yet when I mentioned his name to the women in the casting office they got very excited and said they were huge fans of Cumberbatch. We had to have him after that," Wells explained.

Cumberbatch, Sherlock of BBC's show with the same name was loved and looked up to by his fans. His new way of giving auditions with a selfie video recorded on iPhone proved to be an inspiring idea for his fans and followers who are also aspiring actors.
