Best Buy Cyber Monday Week-Long Deals: MacBook Pro vs. MacBook Air Specs Review
Like Walmart and Amazon, Best Buy will not let Cyber Monday just last a single day, stretching the shopping event into a weeklong affair. For the whole week of Cyber Monday, Dec. 2, Best Buy will offer a lot of deals on cameras, smartphones, laptops, TVs and other electronics on its Web site. It rotates every 24 hours so new deals are up every day.
Best Buy's first Cyber Monday sale includes some of the best deals available online such as a Lenovo IdeaPad S210 11.6-inch touchscreen laptop with 500GB hard drive, 4GB RAM for $279.99 and a deal saving you between $100 and $200 on Apple MacBook Pro with Retina display. Thinking of grabbing this deal? Here's a review of how the MacBook Pro v.s MacBook Air with Haswell compare to help you decide which of these two Macs is a better choice for you.
While the MacBook Air was upgraded to the Haswell chip, it missed out on the Retina display unlike the MacBook Pro which got the latest versions of the two features. The standard Pro did not receive the upgrades, though.
This review will compare the MacBook Air vs. the MacBook Pro with no Retina so we get an accurate idea of screen performance and battery life. This Pro doesn't have the Haswell chip too but it makes a better comparison in terms of specs and prices.
MacBook Air has two screen sizes, the 11-inch and the 13-inch, while the MacBook Pro only has the 13-inch. The 15-inch MacBook Pro has the Retina display, which did not see the much demanded return of the 17-inch model in November.
It is given that specs are of course different but the Retina model is just remarkably improved in terms of hardware and shows just how much the MacBook Air with Retina would perform.
The MacBook Air offers a choice of 1.3GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 or 1.7GHz i7 processor while the MacBook Pro offers 2.5GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 and i7 processor. Both Air and Pro offer a choice of 4GB or 8GB of RAM with up to 512 GB flash storage for MacBook Air and 1TB hard drive or up to 512 GB SSD for the MacBook Pro.
The 2013 MacBook Air boasts of Intel HD Graphics 5000 while the MacBook Pro has Intel HD Graphics 4000. This is because the Retina model makes use of the upgraded Intel Iris Graphics. The battery life of the MacBook Air lasts for up to 9 hours wireless web while the MacBook Pro lasts for 7 hours. The 13-inch MacBook Air can go for a maximum of 12 hours.
The biggest factor between choosing the MacBook Air and the MacBook Pro is not the price but where you will actually use it - home or at the office, will it remain indoor or do you need it portable? Watch the comparison video below to help you even better:
