‘Better Call Saul’ season 3: Giancarlo Esposito’s ‘completely new’ role as Gus Fring
“Better Call Saul” season 3 teaser has already hinted the return of “Breaking Bad” villain Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito) and the audience’s excitement to see Gus’ back story has peaked to another level. Esposito recently talked about his role in the prequel spinoff and revealed how it will be different from the original crime drama series.
Esposito confirmed that he would reprise Gustavo Fring’s role as drug supplier and fast food chain owner during the Television Critics Association 2017 winter press tour. “We are at a time when he is a little more immature. He’s still finding his way. Gus is a very cagey character,” Esposito told reporters.
Gus will be seen in a role which will be nothing like the one he played in “Breaking Bad.” He will not be as serious as he was in the AMC’s original crime drama series. “This is a party Gus now,” Esposito said in an interview with AMC. He is going to be “completely new and fresh and alive.”
However, that doesn’t mean that the petrifying side of Gus Fring is going to be lost in “Better Call Saul” season 3. Esposito said that the side is under development. “He is still terrifying, there is no doubt about it. But I think he has an element of being quietly and smoothly manipulating. Those characteristics are being developed.”
When asked what it is that fans should look forward to after Gus’ entry in the show, Esposito said that the “connections between Mike and Gus” are going to be the biggest excitement for the viewers. “To see how Mike (Jonathan Banks) becomes an intrinsic part of the operation and to see a younger and more spry Hector Salamanca (Mark Margolis), where the hatred for Hector grew and how Gus gained the favor of Juan Bolsa (Javier Grajeda) possibly over Hector,” he told AMC.
“Better Call Saul” season 3 air date has also been confirmed recently. Earlier, the makers revealed that the show will premiere sometime during spring. However, the date has been announced now. The show will be launched on April 10 in the US. In Australia, like the previous two seasons, the show is expected to be streamed on Stan. However, an official confirmation about the same is awaited.
