‘Better Call Saul’ season 3 theory: Gus stops Mike from killing Hector Salamanca
“Better Call Saul” season 3 will observe the return on “Breaking Bad” villain Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito). This is leading the audience to guess how his character will impact the story. Some are guessing that he played a role in the cliffhanger of the last season’s finale episode.
In the last episode of season 2, Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks) buys a sniper rifle and ammunition in order to kill Hector Salamanca (Mark Margolis). He is aiming at Salamanca, who is standing in a desert planning with his crew on how to execute the driver that Mike robbed previously.
Mike positions himself on a ridge overlooking the scene in the desert. He finds it tough to get a clear shot because Nacho is standing in front of Salamanca. While all this is happening, Mike suddenly hears a car horn blaring. He turns to see who it is and finds a branch being wedged against the horn in the car. There’s also a note on the windshield reading, “Don’t.”
Now that Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito) is officially returning in “Better Call Saul” season 3, fans speculate that Mike might have been stopped by Gus Fring, who might as well hire him.
The Salamancas are also rivals of Gus Fring. In “Breaking Bad” he had a business partner called Max (James Martinez), whose relationship with Gus was also ambiguously romantic. They meet Hector Salamanca for a business deal. However, Max is killed by Hector on orders of Don Eladio Vuente (Steven Bauer), the leader of the drug cartel.
Gus also wants to kill Salamanca but it seems he doesn’t want Mike to do that alone. He will team up with Mike to set up the biggest drug empire and then plan to avenge him.
Mike might also get Jimmy (Bob Odenkirk) involved in the cartel, who would then change his name to Saul Goodman and become a criminal lawyer thereafter. However, Jimmy will be reluctant to choose that path because of his close friend and love interest Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn), according to this Reddit thread. What will cause a rift between Jimmy and Kim remains to be seen.
“Better Call Saul” season 3 will have more connections with “Breaking Bad.” Another character apart from Gus Fring will return, as revealed by the official Twitter handle of the show.
