Miley Cyrus may have missed the Grammy Awards nomination but that doesn't make her any lesser of an artist in any way. The 21-year-old most controversial singer of 2013 has a new accolade in her kitty. Miley has been named MTV's Best Artist of 2013!

MTV and Miley go hand in hand for each other's success. Miley catapulted to success and rose to fame when she twerked her way up "Blurred Lines" singer Robin Thicke's crotch as she performed on "We Can't Stop" at the MTV Video Music Awards in August this year. The awards show created history and everyone started talking about Miley's raunchy, crotch-grabbing performance for months (and we are doing it even now).

Then happened the song "Wrecking Ball" where Miley stripped naked and swung on an iron ball. The music video broke all records on You Tube and Vevo and has been dubbed as the Most Watched Music Video of 2013.

MTV faced backlash for airing the sleazy and raunchy performance of Miley Cyrus on national television. Parent's group criticised the music channel for showing Miley twerking on Robin Thicke's crotch and wearing that foam finger and latex bikini. Yet, the channel garnered immense ratings from viewers hence it again invited Miley Cyrus for their European Awards. Miley again created history when she smoked a joint on stage!

All the antics that Miley displayed, along with her singing skills ( of course!) has made her the most talked about person of the year 2013 and hence she won MTV Artist of 2013 too! According to MTV, Miley Cyrus had the most visited artist page on MTV.com. What's more astounding is that Miley's VMA performance with Robin Thicke was the site's number one viewed video.

"She is the third artist to receive the distinction of being named MTV's Best Artist of the Year with past honorees including Katy Perry (2012) and One Direction (2011)," said MTV in a statement announcing the results.

Hip-hop artists Macklemore and Ryan Lewis grabbed the second spot on the MTV list of best artists for 2013, with Justin Timberlake, rapper Kanye West and British boy band One Direction grabbing the next 3 positions.

"Roar" singer Katy Perry was No. 6, followed by rapper Drake, R&B singer Bruno Mars, the Grammy nominated singer/songwriter Lorde and of course Lady Gaga.
