Beverages, Soda Water, Remedy For Hangovers - Study
A recent research has found that the most effective cure against hangovers can be beverages, Sprite and soda water. The study was conducted in a Chinese laboratory at the Sun Yet-Sun University in Guangzhou, China.
Researchers carried out an elaborate study to help the general public eradicate the problems caused by excessive alcohol intake. The study showed alcohol consumption is a widespread trend with hazardous repercussions when takan in large amounts. Researchers sought to generate awareness among nutritionists and the public explaining the relationship of metabolism and cure.
"The aim of this study was to supply new information on effects of these beverages on alcohol metabolism for nutritionists and the general public to reduce excessive alcohol consumption," researchers said.
The study was conducted with 57 beverages consisting of different types of sodas and herbal teas. The research observed the mechanism involved that causes hangover. Results declared that the bodily process of breaking down the alcohol in the body is the actual culprit why drinkers feel sick.
There are a lot of times when people consume different substances from their kitchen shelves presuming it to be the cure for hangover. But it has been suggested that certain drinks can have contrary effects that may even escalate the symptoms.
The aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) is the focus. It is the group of enzymes which are useful in many biological processes. The compound occurs when another chemical compound acetaldehyde metabolizes. Acetaldehyde occurs due to ethanol and it causes the awful feeling. It is metabolized by alcohol dehydrogenase (ADH), which is then transformed into acetate by ALDH.
Acetate is believed a good compound which the effects of drinking can be controlled by controlling acetaldehyde using dehydrogenase enzyme.
Researchers found Sprite and soda water can help reduce the intoxicating effects by controlling acetaldehyde.
The 57 drinks in the study included teas, soda water, Sprite, Coke and Pepsi. Among them, they found teas made with hemp seeds could worsen the process and adverse effects of drinking alcohol.
The study concluded that certain beverages could enhance the ALDH activity and make the hangover worse. But it also found that Sprite is useful in speeding up the process of breaking down acetate. Another helpful substance is soda water.
Results have yet to be tested further. But the findings did not say we could put our health in danger by drinking excessively. The best cure would still be to drink in moderation.
