BHP shells out $1M+ for Queensland flood assistance
Global miner BHP Billiton has confirmed a A$1 million donation to the Queensland Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal to assist with Queensland flood relief efforts.
This assistance is in addition to the $300,000 donation provided by BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) to the Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal and Emerald and Blackwater communities, as well as emergency assistance to these communities provided by BMA's workforce.
BHP Billiton also said it will match dollar for dollar all employee donations made through the company's Matched Giving Program.
The mining giant is to set to smash its own profit record for corporate Australia in 2011.
The expected result for the June year of more than $US21 billion ($A20.5 billion) would mean a 68 per cent growth on the $US12.7 billion registered in 2010 and would break BHP's $US15.39 billion record in 2008.
