Justin Bieber took the stage at the Billboard Music Awards four times - thrice he pulled off successfully and one he received a rain of boos. His "#thatPOWER" and "Believe" performance went by flawlessly. People even cheered him while he received the Top Male Artist Award. Why did the crowd at the MGM grand arena booed Bieber while winning the first-ever Milestone Award?

There wasn't a tinge of negativity for Bieber when he received the Top Male Artist Award but when he pushed past Bruno Mars and Taylor swift, the BMA was filled with loud boos.

"I'm 19 years old... I'm 19 years old," Billboard quoted Bieber. Bringing his right hand over his heart he also added, "I think I'm doing a pretty good job." As he neared the end of his speech, it became even more surprising and evident when the pop singer rambled on about reaffirming his career.

"And basically, from my heart I really just want to say, it should really be about the music. It should be about the craft that I'm making, and... this is not a gimmick, this is not a gimmick. I'm an artist, and I should be taken seriously. All this other bull should not be spoken of," Justin said according to Billboard before he hurried to get out of stage.

The question now: why was Bieber booed during his Milestone Award? It was a fan-driven recognition. He won it through millions of votes. The singer is no stranger to negativity and hate but after his successful PR bid and continuing popularity, Justin still felt the need to give out a validation in his acceptance speech. What was the "bull" that forced people in the audience to boo him instead of applauding? There are several possible reasons to that:

  • He won against Bruno Mars and Taylor Swift. Bieber thanked his fans but failed to acknowledge Bruno Mars and Taylor Swift in the process. These two artists also have their legion of admirers. Failure to acknowledge them may have triggered hate from other fan groups.
  • Wacky World Tour Gone Wrong. Instead of a high-profile tour, it was a series of blunders. From cancelled dates to raided tour buses, song theft accusations, "worth birthday" claims and backstage collapses, Bieber's concert tour did not go as planned.

he singer may have had overexposure or it is the fatigue and frustration from the audience rooting for someone else. What Bieber should do? Criticism is part of anyone's career and the backlash will not stop especially for an artist like him. It is best he learns how to deal with constant criticisms and emerge as an artist with the consensus of the majority.
