'The Big Bang Theory' RECAP: Season 7 Ep. 6 'The Romance Resonance' : Romantic Gestures!
"The Big Bang Theory" Season 7 Recap of Episode 6 - "The Romance Resonance" : Sheldon (Jim Parsons) is in a zone as he is working on a new discovery, and Leonard (Johnny Galecki) is glad seeing him "quiet" and "happy". Howard (Simon Helberg) wants to surprise Bernadette (Melissa Rauch) on their first anniversary so that he can put that in the bank for the next horrible thing he does. Howard's plan is to write a song so that he and the rest of the group can play it together for her.
Penny (Kelly Cuoco) tells Leonard that he never did anything romantic for her to celebrate their first date. Leonard reminds her about the number of times that they broke-up and wants to know which date she is talking about. Leonard also wonders about the romantic thing that Penny ever did for him and he is not talking about sex. Penny promises Leonard that she will "romance" his "freaking ass-off."
Sheldon is silently working on his discovery and the silence starts troubling Leonard. He asks Sheldon to say something. Sheldon says: "Leonard, prepared to be humbled and weep at the glory of my genius." Sheldon thinks that his mind just made a baby and it's beautiful unlike a human baby.
Leonard sees the white-board and realises that Sheldon has discovered synthesises of a method for a new, super heavy element. Sheldon is super-happy and the news of his discovery is spreading like wild-fire, the Chinese too have come to the same conclusion on his discovery. However, Sheldon soon discovers that his discovery was not based on right calculations because of the difference between using square centimetres versus using square meter. Hearing about his mistake, Amy (Mayim Bialik) says it aloud: "So, you just lucky." Sheldon is not happy to hear that and says that "Sheldon Cooper does not get lucky." Since the discovery is based on a blunder, he says: "I'm not a genius. I'm a fraud."
Sheldon wants people to stop spreading the news of his discovery and commenting on it. Leonard says that it cannot be stopped and calls it science equivalent of a sex tape. At the cafeteria, people applaud Sheldon's discovery by clapping for him when walks in. He asks them to stop celebrating him and that there is nothing to applaud him as the discovery was as a result of "bone-headed mistake." He wants to know how he can make people stop loving him, Leonard quips: "Invite them to live with us."
Howard has made the arrangement for the surprise party for Bernadette. Sheldon informs the gang that National Science Foundation wants to give him a substantial grant. All the adulations and congratulatory messages are turning out to be a nightmare for Sheldon. Leonard says that he is proud of him, but Amy says "I'm embarrassed for you."
"I'm not. Sheldon, I've been thinking about it. You're right, you don't deserve any credit. All you did was misread some numbers on the table, a very easy table, too. Honestly, I'm embarrassed for you."
"That's the most romantic thing I ever heard," Sheldon says. "Congratulations Dr Fowler, you just made the fort."
Benerdette could not make it to the surprise party. She has been quarantined because of an experiment she was doing. The group surprise her at the hospital. Howard sings her the song while the rest provide the chorus.
Penny has been unable to figure out something romantic for Leonard. She tries taking Raj's (Kunal Nayyar) help but he does not have any great, out of the movie idea and Penny cannot use sex. Raj empathises with her because sex is the only arrow she has in her quiver and she cannot use it.
As a romantic gesture, Penny presents Leonard with the first edition copy of "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" as Leonard loved the book growing-up and had wished to own the first copy. However, Leonard already has the copy of the first edition. Penny is disappointed and wonders aloud that she is unable to do anything romantic, the way Leonard does all the time. She has a box of full of stuff that Leonard has done or given her. Leonard is happy seeing that and Penny says that she did not throw them away because "its you."
Sheldon tells Amy: "I blame you. You distract me. I have been distracted since the moment I met you. Because all I think about is how much I want to kiss you, but not just on the cheek but on my mouth, like how mommies and daddies do."
Amy looks at him with her mouth wide open. But it is just her day-dream, with eyes open and smile on lips. Sheldon asks her something but Amy tells him: "can't talk ... in the zone."
