‘The Big Bang Theory’ Season 7 Spoilers: ‘Star Wars’ Special Episode Features Prof. Proton’s Transmogrification
May 4th is the annual "Star Wars" holiday, and this year the celebration is set to kick-off on May 1, with "The Big Bang Theory" special "Star Wars" episode. In this episode, titled "The Proton Transmogrification," Ben Newhart will return to reprise his role as Professor Proton.
The spoilers leaked online suggest that this episode will feature the passing-away of Professor Proton. His funeral will be on "Star Wars" day. According to the spoilers, Professor Proton will appear in Sheldon's dream and he will question him whether he really appreciates the people around him. This is expected to be the last appearance of Professor Proton in "The Big Bang Theory."
The Hollywood Reporter (THR) reports that the big bang gang will get together to celebrate the day dedicated to "Star Wars" movies, books and culture. Professor Proton will appear to Sheldon as his own Jedi master.
Chuck Lorre, co-creator of "The Big Bang Theory" said to THR that Lucasfilm approached them, suggesting that they do something for May 4 "Star Wars" Day. The special effects technicians from Lucasfilm's Industrial Light & Magic helped "The Big Bang Theory" team to re-create Dagobah for the episode. Also, they provided props such as light saber. Moreover, Lucafilm's experts consulted on the episode and visited the set to see the production.
"We knew that Bob was coming back and Lucasfilm called us, and we realised that that this might be an opportunity to mix both stories and come up with something special," Steve Molaro, show-runner of "The Big Bang Theory," said.
Newhart had to take the help of the producers as well as his family members to understand the cultural significance of "Star Wars" franchise, created by George Lucas.
"I talked to Chuck, Steve and [co-creator/EP] Bill [Prady] about it and they gave me the Phantom Menace so I knew what [Dagobah] would look like. They explained to me what the light saber was and what it could do -- and not to point it at Jim because it would kill him!" Newhart said to THR.
