“Big Brother Australia” has its first casualty on Tuesday night. Gemma is the first housemate to be evicted from the house after her housemates chose her partner Jake over her.

Aisha & Lawson’s $30K Dilemma

The Kiwi door girl and the Aussie electrical apprentice/magician won the Perfect Pair title after impressing the public with their impressive dance skills. As the winners, they received the $30,000 cash prize Big Brother promised them.

However, as Big Brother revealed to them right after their win, they wouldn’t be sharing the cash equally. One of them would get the $20,000, the other would only receive $5,000. They would also hand the remaining $5,000 to another housemate of their choice. They were given a few minutes to discuss who would receive which, but were told they were forbidden to make a pact on sharing their prize when they come out of the house.

It appeared to be a tough decision, but Lawson made it look so simple, immediately suggesting that Aisha take the $20,000 and they should give the other $5,000 to Jake, who has been struggling and living paycheque to paycheque.

“I think Aisha definitely deserves and needs the $20,000 more than I do. I have quite a blessed life, and I’m very gifted with the family that I have. I still live with my dad, and Aisha doesn’t. She lives out of her home since she was 18. So I think $20,000 is really gonna help her along. And $5,000 would be great for me, too,” the generous 23-year-old housemate explained his decision to Big Brother.

Jake and the rest of the housemates soon found out how Aisha & Lawson were forced to split the money. He couldn’t contain his tears upon learning that the winning pair generously shared their cash prize with him.

Later on, Lawson admitted to BB that he is worried that being the new Head of House and winning the Perfect Pair with Aisha would make them an easy target for eviction nomination next.

Nominated Pairs

Skye & Lisa were originally nominated, but were saved on Monday after it was revealed that they had the most number of votes.

This left David & Sandra, Travis & Cat, and Gemma & Jake as nominees.

First Evicted Housemate

The housemates were nominated for eviction as pairs, and had been voted for by the public as pairs. But as revealed by reigning “Big Brother Australia’ winner Tim Dormer to the housemates, only one member of the pair with the least number of public votes would be evicted, and the housemates would decide which member they would save in front of the pair.

Gemma hasn’t warmed up to most of the housemates. She has butted heads with Travis, and has managed to offend a few of the others. So come nomination night, the housemates named her for eviction. Unfortunately for Jake, he was a “collateral damage” as he was partnered with Gemma.

That’s why it was no surprise when all the housemates, with the exception of Priya, voted Gemma for eviction when the pair got the lowest public votes. Some housemates – David, Ryan, Skye, Travis and Lawson – weren’t required to vote anymore after Travis got the majority eight votes.

Even Gemma’s mum thought she should just relax because whatever her strategy was, it didn’t seem to be working.

Her mum certainly knew best since Gemma was the first to be evicted from the house later in the show.

Post-Eviction Live Interview

Moments after she exited the house, Gemma joined Sonia Kruger on stage to talk about her time in the house.

“I just want the attention to be on me all the time,” the 6’6” fiery redhead explained her strategy, now established to be a poor one, to Sonia. “I want Australia to see me all the time, negative and positive.”

She praised Jake for being there for her and picking her to be his partner, asking the audience to vote for Jake to be the winner. Although they were a bad match according to their psychological profiles, Gemma said that she hit it off with Jake just fine.

Being the first evictee of the season isn’t all bad, though. Gemma received $5,000 voucher from AppliancesOnline.com.au.

Votes Percentage

Jake & Gemma: 25%

David & Sandra: 36%

Travis & Cat: 39%
