In their pursuit of a drug trafficker, Brisbane police authorities have recovered a "mountain of cash" amounting to several millions of dollars, the AAP reported.

"It's not that often that we seize multiple millions in cash," Acting Superintendent Geoff Sheldon told reporters on Monday, adding, "I don't know if it's the largest seizure we've had, but certainly the largest one in recent memory."

The huge amount of cash was found in a storage shed at West End.

The police pursuit against a 32-year-old man was launched after the man ignored a police call for a routine traffic stop pull over at Kangaroo Point. Instead, the man sped off and raised police suspicion. A chase ensued, and the man was arrested at Fortitude Valley.

Police said the man had drugs, a knife, and false identification.

Documents found with the man prompted police to raid a commercial storage shed late Sunday night. The man's South Brisbane home was also searched.

At the commercial shed, police found the mountain of cash as well as some weapons. Police seized a sawn-off firearm and a taser. At the man's home, police found a semi-automatic handgun, steroids, speed and cocaine, among others.

A bank has been called to help authorities count the amount of their cash seizure.

The man is scheduled to appear at the Brisbane Magistrates Court today (Monday) over drug trafficking and weapons charges.

The world's biggest seizure of illegal drugs money

Chinese-Mexican businessman Zhenli Ye Gon aka Mr Ye in Las Vegas is the suspected illegal drugs businessman linked to a $207 million cash seizure by authorities in 2007.

The $207 million cash was found at Mr Ye's Mexico City mansion. U.S. officials have called it the world's biggest seizure of drug cash.
