Bill Cosby Breaks Silence On Rape Allegations
For the first time, Bill Cosby has finally broken silence and spoken over the issue of renewed sexual allegations levied against him. The 77-year-old comedian was keeping mum since these allegations started emerging.
Cosby broke his silence on Friday to tell the media to remain neutral on the issue. He also declared to the world that his wife is standing by him in this ordeal and trusts him completely. Cosby specially told the African-American community of reporters to remain impartial and neutral.
"I only expect the black media to uphold the standards of excellence in journalism and when you do that you have to go in with a neutral mind," told Cosby when he was reached in his Massachusetts home on phone by New York Post. On further probing, the comedian told that his attorney Martin Singer and his team have advised him not to give any unnecessary public statements.
Cosby also cited "love and strength of womanhood" when asked about his wife Camille Cosby's take on the allegations of drugging and sexual assault. The stand-up comedian sounded upbeat and hopeful on the phone and showed no signs of tension or anxiety.
Bill Cosby's fatherly image has taken a jolt after almost 20 women have come forward and spoken about their decade old incidences of sexual assault. LAPD has started an investigation in one of the cases and two lawsuits have been filed against the popular comedian.
Seeing the outrage in social media, many organizers have cancelled their scheduled concerts. NBC had even pulled the plug mid-way on a sitcom which it was developing with the famed artist. The attorney of Cosby has always denied all allegations till date. Almost all of them fall outside the statute of limitations for criminal charges as per law.
Before the current string of controversies, Cosby was loved and regarded as a role model for millions of Americans. It is recalled by ABC that his relations with African-American community of the U.S. is somewhat strained due to one of his comment given a decade ago in which he criticised their youth's values.
