Bill Cosby Sued For Under Age Sexual Abuse; Gloria Allred Challenges Comedian To Face Victims In Court
Bill Cosby's troubles have increased manifold as he is now sued for alleged under age sexual abuse. Judy Huth's lawsuit alleges that the comedian molested her at the Playboy mansion in Los Angeles in 1974.
The lawsuit states that Huth and a friend met Cosby on a film set. He later invited them to his tennis club, where they were served drinks before being taken to the Playboy mansion. Upon arriving at the mansion, Huth was forced to carry out a sexual act against her will and was told to lie about her age, if anyone asked. BBC reported that the lawsuit is claiming that the indecent incident caused Huth "psychological damage and mental anguish", and she is now seeking unspecified damages for the same.
This the first time any woman has charged Cosby of sexually assaulting her while she was still underage. In 2005, a lawsuit was filed by another alleged sexual assault victim. However, the case was settled out of court. The 77-year-old comedian is currently facing a series of renewed allegations, which claim that he drugged and sexually assaulted more than a dozen women in similar fashion.
In the recent development, three more women stepped out to share their stories in a press conference, speaking about the sexual assault they suffered in the hands of Cosby. In the press conference, lawyer Gloria Allred, who is representing the accusers, demanded Cosby to place $100 million in a fund for his alleged victims and allow a panel of retired judges to decide whether the women's claims have merit or not.
As reported by the Daily News, Allred is a popular civil rights lawyer known for her high profile cases involving celebrities and women's rights. In the conference, she even proposed that Cosby should waive the statute of limitations on sexual assault cases, which would permit his victims to file lawsuits against him. Allred also declared to the reporters present there that she had been approached by a number of other women who all claimed that Cosby drugged or sexually assaulted them.
So far, the comedian has not made a single comment on the issue while his lawyer Martin Singer has repeatedly dismissed the accusers' claims as 'completely illogical'. The series of events might not harm the comedian legally, but his fatherly image has definitely gotten tarnished. Several studios have already shelved their projects with him, including NBC and Netflix.
