Angelina Jolie is now happily married to Brad Pitt, but before him, she was married to Billy Bob Thornton, and they wore vials of each other’s blood. The “Fargo” star has finally explained why they decided to wear such an eccentric accessory to show their love for each other.

It was highly reported back when he was still married to Jolie from 2000 to 2003 that they wore each other’s blood around their necks. According to reports, they carried a vial of blood of each other as a way to show their devotion.

But according to Thornton, it wasn’t as dramatic as the media had claimed. The blood vials weren’t enough to keep a vampire hydrated.

“Vial of blood is very simple,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “You know those lockets you buy that are clear and you put a picture of your grannie in and wear around your neck? She bought two of those. We were apart a lot because she’s off making ‘Tomb Raider’ and I’m making ‘Monster’s Ball.’

“She thought it would be interesting and romantic if we took a little razorblade and sliced our fingers, smeared a little blood on these lockets and you wear it around your neck just like you wear your son or daughter’s baby hair in one. Same thing. From that, we were wearing quart jars of blood around our necks. And we were vampires and we lived in a dungeon.”

There’s also no dungeon. He had a basement turned into a recording studio, which he called a dungeon.

In previous interviews, Thornton spoke highly of his ex-wife, who is 20 years his junior, saying they had a great marriage and he still has great affection for her. They met on the set of “Pushing Tin,” and got married in 2000 after two months of courtship. They separated in 2002 and divorced a year later.

He was married four times before Jolie, while Jolie was married once before him. He has been in a relationship with makeup effects artist Connie Angland since 2003, with whom he has a daughter. He has three more children from his previous marriages.

Jolie, on the other hand, has six children with Pitt. They married in August 2014 in France.
