In this week's episode of ABC's new family series 'Black-ish," Andre Johnson and his wife Rainbow realised that in their quest to give their children a better life than they had while growing up, they had ended up spoiling them. The couple then decided to teach their children a lesson on hard work and what it's like not having everything just handed to you on a silver platter.

Andre took his wife and kids to his family's favourite restaurant from back when he was growing up broke. The Beef Pantation was where his family went to get cheap meals whenever there was an occasion to celebrate. The place featured an eat-all you can buffet plus a steak that you pay according to how much you weigh.

The kids were appalled by the food and would rather go hungry than to eat what they felt to be substandard food. Andre was shocked by his kids' behaviour and he told Rainbow that they have been spoiling their children. She initially argued that they are not spoiled and that they are only reaping the fruits of their parents' hard work.

Andre didn't take no for an answer and decided to go ahead and empty out their fridge to show the kids that people need to work to stock it up. He said that each one of them needs to find a job in order to see how hard it is to have even the simplest things in life.

Andre took the older kids Zoey and Andre Jr. and brought them to his advertising agency to work some menial jobs. He immediately put them to work on emptying trash bins and buying coffee so that they can see what it's like working from the lowest ranks.

Despite the setbacks, Andre Jr. kept working hard at his job and eventually started to get the hang of it. For Zoey's part, Andre discovered that she's got a popular vlog geared towards teenage girls and she wants to get sponsorship from make-up brand Hard Candy. When Andre found out about it, he told Zoey to make a pitch that he can arrange to be presented to the company. When she gave him her ideas, he ignored them and basically took over the presentation. Zoey was angered by it and complained that Andre wanted her to learn but then he just totally ran her over.

Meanwhile, Rainbow was in charge of the twins who were too young to actually find a job somewhere. They put up a lemonade stand instead and the small venture seemed to be fairly successful. Unfortunately, the twins had gone to their neighbours to ask for food when Andre emptied out the fridge. The twins led the neighbours to believe that the family has fallen on hard times. While working on the lemonade stand, Rainbow started receiving pity donations from one of their neighbours to her absolute embarrassment. Even though she wanted the kids to stop selling lemonade, she couldn't ask them to quit the venture and undermine the lesson they were trying to teach.

In the end, Rainbow just hilariously got all dressed up and showed off a Mercedes Benz borrowed from the dealer to save her image. Andre decided that giving his kids "The Gift of Hunger" paid off and that he needs to let them learn and thrive o their own without taking over everything for them.
