'The Blacklist' season 4 updates: Liz Keen, Alexander Kirk relationship revealed; what this means for Raymond Reddington
Original air date on NBC: Fall 2016
In the Season 3 finale of “The Blacklist,” it was revealed that Elizabeth Keen (Megan Boone) faked her death to escape from Raymond Reddington (James Spader). It was also revealed that her abductor, Alexander Kirk (Ulrich Thomsen) is actually her father.
Aside from the actress actually giving birth on Apr. 15 this year, Boone shared that Liz also had to break away from Red to see the answers she needed about her mother and background. She wanted to know about her connection to Red from a different source aside from the latter, so it was a good opportunity to get away from him and get more information on her own.
Entertainment Weekly writes that even though Kirk had a huge revelation in claiming that he is Liz’s father, her primary concern is getting her baby back. She does not trust Kirk at present, considering that he abducted her and broke her family. She also wanted to get away from Red as soon as she had her baby. Her personal reasons for engaging with Red before were gone when she delivered her child.
Boone shared that Liz’s allegiance to the task force and their mission was one of the main reasons why she kept letting him back into her life. Liz will be more autonomous in Season 4 and has to take on a new identity. It may also bring her closer to her real identity – Masha Rostova. By getting rid of Red, Liz will have to take on difficult situations on her own. Her connection with Red will not likely be closed permanently, but she will try to know more about their relationship from other people.
In another Entertainment Weekly report, Bokenkamp also said that Red will be devastated when he discovers that Liz faked her death. He understands that he exposed her to various kinds of danger by being with her.
According to TVGuide, there are a number of questions that will most likely be answered in Season 4, such as whether Red know about Kirk being Liz’s father, whether Red will kill Mr. Kaplan, where Tom (Ryan Eggold) will be and why Kirk waited so long to reveal his relationship to Liz.
“The Blacklist” Season 4 will return in fall 2016 on NBC. The new season will still have Jon Bokenkamp and John Eisendrath as executive producers.
