Red's New Task For Liz and the FBI Team

Liz wants Naomi's address from Red so that she can question her. Red has a better idea. He tells Liz about the mind control experiments that the U.S. government's agents are conducting. The episode opened with an anxious looking woman firing at the employees inside a bank after she was denied a loan. A man, inside a car, was keeping a watch on the woman and jotting down something. Red gives the example of this woman and adds that similar cases have been reported. Normal people, with no criminal records, have turned into criminals. Liz and FBI team get to work. Cooper tells Liz that there is truth in what Red told her about mind control experiments. He tells her about Sub Project 7, a black budget project that was funded out of DIA. Liz and Agent Ressler, who did not have much to do in this episode, visit a senator. The senator tells them that Sub Project 7 does not exist. He sends them some documents. When the two agents are on their way out from the senator's office, the man, who was inside the car, is seeking an appointment with the Senator. He is Dr. Linus Creel. FBI members are unable to read between the lines of the redacted documents. If Red was not there, this FBI's taskforce team would have shut down by now. Red takes Liz to a man called Haskell. He is able to decode the redacted lines and also there is a picture of a team working on the Sub Project 7. Dr. Linus Creel is also in the picture. Aram and the team finds out the Dr. Linus Creel was giving psychiatric advice to the culprits of the recent cases.

The FBI team also figures out that Dr. Linus Creel is targeting those who have warrior gene. Liz enrols herself as a woman who needs psychiatric help, as her husband had left her. Dr Creel asks her questions about her past and what she would like to do to her husband. She tells him that she would chain him up and force him to tell her about all the lies. She would make him her prisoner. Liz manages to get out from there, with the password from Dr. Linus Creel's laptop. This password enables Aram and FBI to find that Dr. Linus Creel's next victim is a guy called Duncan. The FBI rush to stop Duncan from creating a bloody mayhem at a community forum on gun violence. The senator is also present at the hearing. Dr. Linus Creel wants him to accept his research findings that says that some people are genetically inclined to commit violence. Later, Dr. Linus Creel comes out and wants Duncan to shoot him, as that would make the senator take his research seriously. Duncan shoots but it does not kill the villain of this episode. Dr. Linus Creel gets hold of Liz and is ready to put a bullet in her head. But, a sniper shoots Dr. Linus Creel in the head. Liz sees the sniper [the man who popped up near Liz's motel in the last episode] atop a building.

Naomi and Liz's Conversation

"The Blacklist" characters never do the straight-talking. When they are asked questions, they never give a straight answer but contribute to the "The Blacklist" mystery pile. At the end of the episode 4, Liz met Naomi, hoping that she may have answers to questions about her past. Naomi told Liz that Red wants something from her. She called it a game and that it is manipulation. Red has developed a connection with her to make her believe that she matters. She told Liz that Red is not who she thinks he is. Liz wants to know what Red wants from her. Liz does not get an answer as Red arrives and putn an end to the conversation. Naomi has the answers but it may take a couple of more seasons before Liz gets anywhere near the truth.

Liz's Secret Remains A Secret

Liz has a secret of her own and she has kept it inside a locked room. Red knows she has a source and she is hiding something from him, but it looks like, his associates are of no help when it comes to bringing this secret out in open. The episode 4 "Dr. Linus Creel" ends with Liz staring at a closed door, with keys in her hand. It is likely that Liz is keeping Tom as her captive and is using him to get closer to the truth. The question is for how long she will be able to keep Red away from finding out the truth.

Additional Notes:

The sniper is an associate of Red. He has been following Liz ever since the death of Agent Mallik.

Naomi has no clue where her and Red's daughter, Jennifer, is and she also has no clue that her current husband Frank was cheating on her with a woman named Monica. It is Red who made sure that Frank stays with Naomi and that they move out of Philadelphia and to a place where they can live under his protection.
