An injured and bleeding kangaroo hopped its way to Australia's Melbourne Airport which puzzled onlookers and passengers waiting to board. The kangaroo went inside the terminal shop and made its way to the pharmacy.
Airport officials in Melbourne were not entirely sure how the kangaroo was able to get into the domestic terminal of Qantas Airways. Airport representative Anne Gillett said the kangaroo was bleeding because it was hit by an oncoming vehicle at an intersection near the terminal.
Qantas staff, shop employees and the police helped contained the marsupial in the pharmacy while waiting for wildlife authorities to arrive at the scene. The kangaroo was tranquilised and taken to the veterinarian for treatment of its injuries by two rescue volunteers, according to the statement of Wildlife Victoria.
Rescuers named the kangaroo "Cyrus" after one of the volunteers who assisted on the scene.
The Qantas domestic terminal is near one of the bushlands frequently visited by kangaroos. The airport tarmac is usually closely guarded to prevent animals from blocking the path of airplanes. However, some of the staff confirmed that kangaroos occasionally hop their way inside the airport buildings.
Comedian Julia Morries was the first to break the news of a kangaroo in the airport on Twitter. She said she was in the Melbourne Airport when the kangaroo "jumped into the chemist." Her post was retweeted by other Twitter users.

This was not the first time that a kangaroo has wandered into the airport of Melbourne. In 2012, authorities found a bouncing kangaroo in an airport parking garage.
The distressed kangaroo was found jumping on the fifth floor of the car park. Wildlife authorities rushed to the scene to take the injured animal for treatment.
After a veterinarian has treated the injuries of the injured kangaroo, it will be released into the wild once more.
