Queensland Premier Anna Bligh has successfully appointed Chris Rodwell as the Trade Commissioner to the Americas.

The Australian Industry group director will receive up to $380,000 a year for assuming the position starting next month.

Ms. Bligh said that Mr. Rodwell will replace the former premier Peter Beattie who resigned from the post 10 months earlier.

“There is no doubt Peter Beattie has done a great job for Queensland he has indicated it is time for him to move on,” Ms. Bligh said.

Ms. Bligh also praised him for his outstanding performance and said that Mr. Rodwell is the best candidate for the position.

"He has excellent business relationships across the broadest possible sectors, but particularly in those areas where we have a lot of activity - biotechnology, mining, mining services among others, including tourism.

"He will be an outstanding appointment and I look forward to him taking up the post."

Mr. Rodwell assured the Premeier and the government he is eyeing to promote Queensland's businesses overseas, particularly in mining and agribusiness services to the Americas.

"We have got major opportunities to extend the presence of Queensland's mining servicesand agribusiness sector, so it is a great opportunity to sell Queensland to the Americas,” Mr. Rodwell explained.

“I certainly look forward to putting Queensland business in front and centre in the minds of government and business across that region.
