True Bloods Australian star Ryan Kwanten (Jason Stackhouse)

Season 4 of 'True Blood' came to a spellbinding finale on Sunday evening with dramatic results for many characters. There were deaths, resurrections, shootings, and magic all squeezed into an action-packed episode, which conveniently fell on Halloween for the residents of Bon Temps.

With so much to recap, let us first look at the events that unfolded between Marnie/Lafayette and Jesus. Marnie the witch had managed to take over Lafayette's body and used it to demand that Jesus pass over his magic powers to her. With Jesus bound to a chair, Marnie convinced him to comply by threatening to harm Lafayette's. Once possessed with Jesus' powers, Marnie stabbed Jesus in the heart, killing him.

Marnie then set off to find Bill, to exact her revenge for Bill shooting and killing her in a stand-off the previous week.

In the meantime Sookie and Tara reflected on their lives, looking forward to a semblance of normality now that Marnie had (as far as they knew) gone. Halloween at Merlotte's was in full swing and Alcide declared his interest in Sookie only for her to reject his advances.

'True Blood' main protagonist, Anna Paquin (Sookie)

Sam is occupied with burying Tommy, the only family he had left. Maxine arrived and offered some kind words and comfort, stating that she had always treated Tommy like a son, and as such considered Sam part of her family.

Back at Merlotte's, Tara interrupted the party, revealing that she had found Jesus' dead body and deduced that Marnie had indeed possessed Lafayette's body and was going to set fire to Bill and Eric, whom she had tied up.

To combat Marnie, Tara summoned the dead, which heralded a guest appearance from Antonia and Sookie's Gran. The stand-off culminated in Antonia convincing Marnie to back down, blowing out the fire and reassuring Marnie that everyone has their place and it was her time to go. Gran became impatient with Marnie's reluctance to leave and proceeded to reach down Lafayette's mouth and pull Marnie's spirit right out of his body.

After a talking to by Gran, Sookie decided to spurn both Eric and Bill much their chagrin. Things became worse for the duo when Nan makes threats against Sookie, resulting in Bill and Eric turning on her and killing her.

The action hadn't finished for the episode as Debbie sought out Sookie, pent up with rage believing that Sookie was to blame for Alcide rejecting her. She turned up at Sookie's house with a shotgun intent on shooting Sookie but as she fired, Tara jumped in the line of fire taking a gunshot to the head. Sookie reacted by tackling Debbie and securing the gun, and in retaliation blew Debbie's head off.

So much was left to reflect on in an action-packed and dramatic finale to season 4 of 'True Blood' and many questions need resolved. The desire and need to have these questions resolved will no doubt see the series' avid fans waiting with bated breath for the beginning of season 5.
