Detective Baez was seriously hurt during a surprise attack on one of her missions with Danny. It involves getting rid of confiscated drugs worth $30 million. It looks like the work of some drug cartel that's why Danny tried to investigate who was behind it.

Danny and Maria weren't the only ones who saw some action in "Partners," Frank was also involved in some New York Police Department issue regarding a particular NYPD lieutenant. He tried to go about it in a careful and methodical manner to avoid blowing it out of proportions and causing more controversy.
