BMW Yields 2,000 Ecstasy Pills Hidden in Roof Lining
New South Wales Police have confiscated 2,000 ecstasy pills worth $60,000 from the owner of a BMW that was traveling along the Newell Highway towards Dubbo on Monday afternoon.
When the officers stopped the vehicle they found the banned drugs hidden in the roof lining of the BMW. A further search yielded more than $4,000 cash, 200 more ecstasy tablets, five mobile phones and three boxes of resealable plastic bags.
The car has two people inside, a 24-year old man who was driving and his 23-year old passenger. The former, a resident of Gold Coast, was not allowed bail and is scheduled to appear at the Dubbo Local Court on Tuesday.
The seizure was made on the same day that National Drug and Alcohol Research Centre released a report that said illegal drug use went up in Australia. The report cited metamphetamine and amphetamine-type stimulants such as ecstasy pills among the more widely used drugs.
