'Boardwalk Empire' Season 5 Finale Recap And Review [Spoilers]
"Boardwalk Empire" Season 5 ended on a high note, confirming fears of some fans of the series. The shocking ending to the season and the series may be remembered for a long time. Episode 8 marked the ending of an old empire with the rise of a new one. [Spoiler Alert!]
Nucky Thompson began to get all his affairs in order before his planned exit from Atlantic City. He had already given Margaret Thompson a great degree of confidence that bore fruit in "Boardwalk Empire" Season 5 finale.
Margaret Thompson was seen to be able to handle difficult situations on her own. She no longer needs to depend on anyone for her financial needs. In episode 8, she convinced Joseph P. Kennedy to take on a risky short position at the stock market, which resulted in him making a lot of money. Nucky and Margaret also made a lot of money in that trade.
Having set things right with Margaret, Nucky visited his brother Eli next. He offered him some advice and left him some money and shaving blade as parting gifts. He later visited Gillian Darmody and told her he had arranged a separate room for her. He also told her that if she ever got out of the mental asylum, there would be some money in a trust account she can use. This way, Nucky severed all his ties and settled all his debts in "Boardwalk Empire" Season 5.
There was, however, one more debt to settle and that was Tommy Darmody, the son of Jimmy Darmody. Readers who have been following "Boardwalk Empire" will remember that Nucky Thompson personally shot and killed Jimmy on a previous occasion. It turns out the young man who was working for Nucky was really Tommy Darmody waiting for a chance to get his revenge.
"Boardwalk Empire" Season 5 ended with the death of Nucky Thompson. The season also saw the death of Dr. Narcisse, who was assassinated by Lucky Luciano's men. As all the old mob bosses died, the younger generation took control in a meeting headed by Lucky Luciano.
A mob commission was formed with the heads of five mob families of New York and two other families. Al Capone could not attend the meeting because of his court appearance. Lucky Luciano and the seven members of the Commission agreed to decide on all disputes in "Boardwalk Empire" Season 5 finale.
