Bob Arum Sneers At Floyd Mayweather Jr. Over Unwillingness To Fight Manny Pacquiao
Top Rank Promotions CEO Bob Arum criticised Floyd Mayweather Jr. over his unwillingness to fight Manny Pacquiao. Arum said that the problem is Mayweather, who always has an excuse every time that the topic of the super fight between him and Pacquiao is brought to the table.
Speaking during an international conference call with the media on November 11, Arum said as much as he, Pacquiao, and the entire boxing world would want to see the fight happen, it just wouldn't materialize and the problem is with the unbeaten American boxer."
"Floyd Mayweather is reluctant to fight Manny Pacquiao, period," Arum said. "If people don't see that by now, they're never gonna see it."
Even Freddie Roach wants to see the fight take place because he knows that his protégé can beat Mayweather. Now, Roach is uncertain if the fight will really happen.
Pacquiao has said that he still has the desire to square off with Mayweather in the ring, ESPN reports. He said that it is his goal to make the fight that boxing fans have been longing to see happen.
Pacquiao is confident that "good faith negotiations" can make the fight come to fruition. However, it is one thing going to negotiation with someone and another thing trying to haggle with someone that is not willing to bargain. Pacquiao said it is quite impossible when only one person is willing to sit at the table.
A lot of things continue to stand in the way of Pacquiao-Mayweather fight. In addition to Mayweather 's string of excuses on why he doesn't want to fight Pacquiao, both fighters have conflicting contracts. Pacquiao is signed with HBO, while Mayweather is signed with Showtime. Mayweather also wants to fight at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas.
The unbeaten boxer has also vowed not to work with Top Rank. In May, Pacquiao has signed a two-year contract extension with Top Rank, which sees the Filipino boxing icon bonded with the company until December 2016. As Pacquiao has said, the fight that long been savoured by boxing fans will only happen if the two great fights sit down and negotiate until they reach a clear agreement.
