"This is my seventh shot at this. ... I just love this very much," teary Newhart said gazing at the trophy. The man got the much-deserved standing ovation from the audience.

"Congrats to the legend Bob Newhart on his Emmy win! It is an HONOR sharing the screen with you, my friend.... pic.twitter.com/QaT39V5tIb," Kaley Cuoco tweeted with a picture from the episode.

"@jimmy722: Big Congratulations to Bob Newhart who just WON AN EMMY for his guest appearance on The Big Bang Theory !! #BigBangTheory" YAY!" Kunal Nayyar tweeted.

Bob Newhart can be rightly called as one of the most enduring actors in the television industry entertaining fans for more than five decades. He wept as he grabbed the Emmy award in his hands.

Newhart told in the past that he had given up all hopes of getting in Emmy in this lifetime.

"There were a couple years where I didn't submit my name."

"I just felt that the kind of stuff I do doesn't win awards. And I didn't really want to go through the process and the disappointment. So maybe for six years, three of 'The Bob Newhart Show' and three of 'Newhart,' I didn't bother submitting my name. That way I could sit at home and say, 'I would have won," Newhart said.

"The best answer is really, the years I was nominated, there were better people in the category than me. You could try to put it another way, but that's the truth," he said as reported by Variety.

But things changed for good when he played the lovable character of Professor Proton in "The Big Bang Theory."

Chuck Lorre had been after me," Newhart revealed.

"We had over the years talked about doing something - it finally was this year, and he said, 'What will it take?' I said, 'It has to be in front of a live audience,' because that's all I've ever done. I don't know how to do a show not in front of a live audience. So he said, how about "The Big Bang Theory,' and I said, 'Great,' because I think it's the best-written show on television. And I said I wanted it to be a recurring role - I didn't want it to be one and out," the veteran star added.

Apparently, he is not done with "The Big Bang Theory," and will return very soon in the show.

"There's a script I'll be doing in October, and I'm pretty sure I play Professor Proton in that," he said backstage after humbly accepting the award at the 2013 Creative Arts Emmy on Sunday.

"But he might have given up his science thing. That's up to Chuck (Lorre) and the writing team," Newhart remarked.

We are delighted that Bob Newhart won his much-deserved Emmy this year.
