“Better Call Saul” season 3 is scheduled to return to the small screen in a few weeks, and fans of the franchise are excited to see Jimmy McGill turn into the notorious Saul Goodman. In a recent interview, actor Bob Odenkirk explained exactly how it will happen.

The Independent recently sat down with Odenkirk to discuss the upcoming season. The publication pointed out how the coming of Saul has started to sound like a monster is about to strike. “He’s a monster, but he doesn’t come down from the hills,” Odenkirk explained. “He comes out from the inside like an alien.”

Odenkirk then reiterated how the upcoming episodes will be the first time audiences catch Saul in the “Breaking Bad” prequel, but it will not be the same arguably flamboyant character from the original series. “You see a version of Saul Goodman and he is actually called Saul Goodman,” the actor confirmed. “It’s not what you expect. But it’s fun! It’s very fun.”

According to the publication, another exciting thing that the series will finally explain is how exactly Jimmy comes up with the Saul Goodman name. It was briefly touched on in “Breaking Bad,” when Odenkirk’s character introduced himself to Bryan Cranston’s Walter White. “My real name’s McGill,” he said. “The Jew thing I just do for the homeboys. They all want a pipe-hitting member of the tribe, so to speak.”

Despite the clues that Odenkirk has shared, it is still unclear as to how and why the transition will take place in “Better Call Saul.” But as the actor explained, viewers will see a different side to Saul, so the transition is likely to be a slow one. It is possible that fans will not see the same lawyer that they did in “Breaking Bad” for quite some time.

Odenkirk also briefly touched on the return of Giancarlo Esposito’s Gus Fring. He confirmed that Gus’ role in season 3 is more than just a cameo. “Not only is he back, there’s a story with him,” he said. “And we get to learn a little more about his empire building. He doesn’t just pass through.” In the original series, Gus admitted to Walter that he had made mistakes early on in his career. It is a possibility that Gus will go to Saul to try and remedy these same mistakes.

“Better Call Saul” season 3 will debut on April 10 in the United States via US network AMC. Australian audiences can stream the show on Stan.
