Businesses in earthquake-damaged Bohol in the Philippines have resumed tour operations Thursday as survivors reclaimed lives amid the rising death toll that has reached 195. Cost of damages caused by 7.2 magnitude temblor had hit Php 1 billion (A$24 million).

The Loboc River cruise, enabling tourists to experience the beauty and serenity of the most beautiful section of the river, resumes operations Thursday, Oct. 24, nine days after the province was struck by the massive earthquake that toppled numerous historical structures, including old churches Tuesday morning. Afterwhich 2,547 aftershocks were recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology as reported by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) Wednesday.

Roads from Tagbilaran City to Carmen town, epicenter of the past week's major temblor, via Corella has been opened, according to the state-run Philippine Information Agency, but only to light vehicles.

Damages, according to NDRRMC, can be broken down as Php 898.171 million in Bohol, Php 197.401 million in Cebu, Php 1.45 million in Siquijor and Php 270,000 in Negros Oriental.

As of Wednesday, the NDRRMC released the following:

  • Death toll reaching 195 (182 from Bohol, 12 from Cebu and one from Siquijor)
  • Number of injured were at 651 (557 from Bohol; at least 12 continue to remain missing, all of them from Bohol)
  • A total of 597,598 families or 2,991,143 people in 1,319 villages in 54 towns and six cities in six provinces were affected.
  • 12,989 families or 71,387 people are staying in 99 evacuation centers.
