Boko Haram Leader 'Allah has instructed me to sell women'

Boko Haram leader, Abubakar Shekau has confessed through a video recording, to the abduction of the high school girls.

"I abducted your girls," Shekau had confessed.

On April 14, reportedly 276 high school girls were abducted in Nigeria. Boko Haram militants stormed an all-girls secondary school in the village of Chibok, in Borno state, packed the girls into trucks and disappeared into a remote area along the border in Cameroon and Chad.

Not long after Nigerian First Lady, Patience Jonathan, ordered the arrest of #BringBackOurGirls campaign leader, Naomi Mutu Nyadar early Monday, a video of Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau surfaced, claiming responsibility for the girls' abduction. Nyadar was subsequently released amidst reports that she wasn't detained but was invited for a police interview, and by Monday afternoon, was safely returned home.

Associated Press reviewed the video and confirmed that the face and voice indeed belongs to Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau.

It is unclear whether the hour long video was recorded prior, or after reports emerged last week, that the girls were allegedly forced to marry their abductors, who reportedly paid an insignificant amount of $12 for each bride.

According to a CNN translation of the local Hausa language, Shekau claimed Allah had told him to sell the girls, and that the girls will remain with them as slaves.

"I abducted your girls. I will sell them in the market. There is a market for selling humans. Allah says I should sell. He commands me to sell. I will sell women. I sell women," Shekau said in the video, which started with fighters lifting their rifles and shooting in the air while proclaiming "Allahu akbar!", or "God is Great!"

CNN reported that Shekau had called for Western education to stop and for the girls to get married, confirming the parents' fears that their children might be sold for slavery.

Huffington Post reported that an Islamic scholar, whose request is to remain anonymous, said Boko Haram is ready to negotiate ransom for the abductees. He also reported that two of the girls had died of snakebite and about 20 are sick, and that Christian girls were forced to convert to Islam.

Despite the video, Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan is not deterred from saving the children and asked cooperation from the parents to identify their children, which up to now they haven't been able to do.
