‘Bones’ Season 10 Finale Recap: Farewells And Dynamic Changes, Closures And A Box (Spoilers)
The finale episode of “Bones” Season 10 (10x22) aired Thursday on Fox. The Jeffersonian team looks back into Pelant’s criminal acts, while two fan-favourite couples make significant decisions in their lives. (Spoiler alert: This recap details the events in the show's tenth season finale.)
Booth learns that Brennan has been looking into job offers. He tries to convince her that the Jeffersonian investigation is what they do together. Brennan says, “For now.”
The Jeffersonian’s latest murder case shows clues that the Jeffersonian team has previously linked to Pelant. Brennan says the villain may have trained an apprentice.
Hodgins and Angela were packing their things, getting ready for their move to Paris. But when they realized Pelant might be involved in the Jeffersonian’s latest case, the two come back for a swan song.
The Pelant-related case quickly changes Booth’s mind. He later tells Brennan the present case is his last with the FBI. Brennan says he could work with the NSA. Booth says they could just have a baby and somewhat retire.
Brennan becomes extra strict with squintern Bray, telling him he should learn to examine bones on his own. Booth lets Boyd question persons of interest, and Caroline picks up that something is going on. Booth confesses he is considering the present case to be his last. Caroline is so shocked and saddened that she starts choking back tears.
Boyd, Booth and Caroline question Dunlop, a finance guy, with links to Pelant’s account worth over four billion dollars – Hodgin’s money. Boyd’s father issues play out, but this only enables him to push the potential witness harder.
Brennan tells Angela that she and Booth are leaving. Cam overhears; she is more sad than upset. Still, she expresses resentment over the fact that Brennan didn’t tell her right away. Brennan apologises, explaining that she is also a friend and she wasn’t sure how to tell her the news without hurting her feelings.
Cam and Hodgins talk, and he tells her he would do anything for Angela. She then slips that Brennan was leaving. Hodgins couldn’t believe it. Word then quickly spreads to the squinterns.
Hodgins borrows a more antiquated version of a mass spectrometer and determines through the machine that a pizza deliverer killed the victim. The camera pans a few times to Angela, who is watching how thrilled her husband is with his work at the Jeffersonian.
While watching a video of the hooded killer, Brennan gets upset over the squinterns’ slower pace in picking up clues. She practically calls them incompetent – just moments after calling them “brilliant.” Still, she gets ecstatic when Wick, Edison and Bray saw what she saw – the killer is a woman, most likely the victim’s girlfriend.
After a wild chase that took them from tracks to moving train cars, Boyd and Booth catch the killer. Later, Angela tells Hodgins she has found his four billion dollars, or at least its virtual location. Hodgins tells her she should give the money to charities. This prompts Angela to tell her husband they’re staying at the Jeffersonian – as long as they are together.
Cam breaks down in her office while she’s looking at photos of her team. Vaziri walks in. He consoles her. Meanwhile, at the FBI, Booth gives Caroline a farewell hug. Boyd walks in. The two exchange sarcasm-laden jokes, and then they shake hands.
Back at the Jeffersonian, Brennan starts packing her things. Angela comes into her office to show her a video of Pelant’s after-death message. Brennan stops the video from playing. She tells Angie Pelant is in the past.
Booth arrives to help Brennan pack. He learns she only needed to pack one box from her office. The couple then hugs it out with the squinterns (Bray, Wick and Vaziri), Edison, Hodgins, Angie and Cam. And they leave the Jeffersonian for the last time -- at least in this season.
"Bones" Season 11 is expected to premiere toward the last quarter of the year. Lead stars Emily Deschanel, David Boreanaz, T.J. Thyne and Michaela Conlin are returning. The rest of the cast is believed to be on board, as well.
